Audio headlines have been full of nostalgia lately, especially with recent reports suggesting Sony’s classic WH-1000XM4 could make a comeback, coupled with the arrival of a new WH-1000XM6 color. Google also played it safe at the latest Pixel 11 hardware showcase, settling for a fresh coat on existing earbuds rather than swinging for ambitious new form factors. But while rivals rehash legacy designs or stick to modest incremental tweaks, Samsung seems ready to make a bold, unexpected play in the premium over-ear audio space.
According to SamMobile, code strings hidden inside the latest Galaxy Wearable app reveal that Samsung is actively developing full-sized wireless headphones internally codenamed “Galaxy H1”. While Samsung has spent recent years heavily refining its true wireless Galaxy Buds ecosystem, it hasn’t fielded a proper over-ear flagship under its primary mobile branding in ages.

While exact specifications remain unconfirmed, Samsung could leverage every drop of acoustic pedigree from its Samsung-owned JBL subsidiary, which already crafts formidable over-ear options. Early indications point to Adaptive Noise Cancellation (ANC), ambient sound pass-through, Bluetooth 6.0 connectivity, and Samsung’s high-bitrate SSC UHQ audio codec.
Add seamless multi-device Auto Switch support, extended battery performance, and deep Galaxy AI assistant integration into the mix, and Samsung suddenly has all the necessary ingredients to challenge the reigning audio giants.
Don’t expect to pack these in your travel bag anytime soon, though. Early internal project timelines suggest a target launch window around early 2027 alongside other experimental earbud designs. It is certainly a long wait, but if Samsung delivers on seamless Galaxy ecosystem integration and top-tier sound, it could pose serious competition to the likes of Apple, Sony, and Bose.
After years of watching the premium over-ear audio market settle into a comfortable, predictable standoff between Sony, Bose, and Apple, seeing Samsung prepare to enter the over-ear arena with serious intent is the exact competitive jolt this space needs.
