The Galaxy Z Fold 8 was a big bet for Samsung, given that it strays from the company’s tried-and-tested format. A report recently claimed that the device made up for 70% of all Z8 series pre-orders in South Korea, breaking a domestic record previously held by the Galaxy Note 10 in 2019. A new report now suggests that this demand for the foldable may have convinced Samsung to increase production of the smartphone.
According to ET News, Samsung is assembling an additional 1 million units of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 following the device’s “great success.” Samsung is said to have initially produced 2.8 million units of the foldable, and the manufacturer could increase production further if demand persists. Recent reporting highlights that demand for the foldable has already surpassed the company’s expectations.
While these figures should inspire confidence for Samsung, it’s still early days for the foldable. This is especially true considering the imminent launch of Apple’s first-ever foldable. The true test for the South Korean electronics giant will come sometime after the rumored iPhone Ultra arrives.
For now, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 remains one of the most unique book-style foldables you can get. The 4:3 aspect ratio on the main display makes it ideally suited for media viewing. However, those seeking a larger display real estate and better camera hardware may have to look to the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, which starts at $2,100. Both devices come equipped with Samsung’s upgraded display tech to minimize crease-related issues.
The ET News report didn’t reveal whether Samsung intends to increase the production of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, which risks being overshadowed by its smaller sibling if the current trend continues.
