The long war is over. Justice is done. The revolution, the necessity of which Assassin’s Creed players have discussed for a long time, has taken place. Edward’s hateful blowpipe is vanquished.
In a new patch for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, Ubisoft proudly declares that “The Blowpipe Can Now Be Hidden.” Players, it turns out, had rather taken against Edward’s handy little dart-dispatcher.
Before this patch, it was an ever-present aspect of his costume once he obtained it in the game’s story, and I suppose some folk didn’t think it blended well with his outfits.
“We saw your feedback, and we have given players the option to hide the ‘Blow Pipe’ from Edward’s back,” writes Ubisoft. “In order to do so, access your outfit in the inventory and select R2 for the option to ‘Hide Gear'”. If you’re on the other side of the great blow pipe war, you can also opt to keep it visible.
I admit, I do find it kind of funny that—in a patch weighing in at between 1.8 and 3.7 GB, depending on your PC storefront of choice—this is the headline item. People have clearly been yelling in Ubi’s ear about this goddamn pipe ruining their efforts to keep Edward in the dernier cri.
To be fair to them, I get it! A lot of the game’s outfits don’t really have an obvious place for the blow pipe to hang from, so it ends up hanging in space in an obtrusive way.
Anyway, there are, would you believe it, other changes in the latest Black Flag patch. For instance, there are now double the number of autosaves (10, in place of the earlier five), fixes for some broken tutorials and DLC notifications, and it revives the much-missed ability to toggle your hood while performing a leap of faith. There are also numerous fixes for gameplay issues, world stuff, textures, and so on, which I’ll list below.
