Gentler Stories is out with a new update to The Outsiders today, the company’s exercise-tracking app for high-performance athletes. Here’s what’s new.
Last May, The Outsiders announced a major update with Home Screen widgets, expanded workout import options, new metrics, additional workout types, and more.
Today, the app is getting another round of improvements, this time focused on giving runners and cyclists more detailed ways to analyze their workouts and share their results.
With version 1.7.6 rolling out on the App Store, The Outsiders is renaming its Splits interface to Breakdown and expanding it with a more detailed look at workout data.
The section now displays intervals, manually marked segments, and equal-distance splits for activities such as running, cycling, and swimming.
Today’s update also introduces several customizable sharing options that allow users to post their training sessions with different map styles, backgrounds, and workout statistics.
Here’s Gentler Stories on this addition:
Turns out even if you’re an outsider, you still like an occasional humble brag on socials. Presenting a minimalistic yet stylish way to share your training sessions – one that lets you be expressive and make it truly your own. Pick your map style (light, dark, or satellite), personalize the background (or keep it transparent), and filter the exact stats you want to share. It is a beautiful, clean aesthetic similar to its sister app, Gentler Streak.
For users who rely on The Outsiders to track their runs, the app now offers the same Relative Intensity metric previously available to cyclists. It compares a runner’s average heart rate with their lactate threshold heart rate to show how hard they worked relative to their personal limit.
Gentler Stories explains that lactate threshold heart rate is “the rate you can sustain for about an hour.”
Finally, today’s update includes two additional improvements, alongside a fix for a glitch affecting the Workouts tab:
The Outsiders is available for free on the App Store, with monthly, yearly, and lifetime subscription options to unlock its full set of features.
